 Hand cutting operations

1.Chipping

In chipping operation, thick layer of material is removed by using a cutting tool called chisel with the help of a hammer.

2.Filing

In filing, material is removed in the form of fine particles by using cutting tool called file. This is generally used for final shaping and finishing operations.

 

3.Sawing

Sawing operation is used to part-off a metal into two parts or to cut-off unwanted materials by using a cutting tool called saw

Machining operations

1.Turning

In turning operation, a single point cutting tool is pressed and feed along the rotating work material and is performed in lathe.

2. Milling

In milling operation, a rotating cutting tool called milling cutter is feed along the material to be cut. It is performed in a milling machine.

3. Shaping

In shaping, a single point cutting tool fixed on a reciprocating ram o the shaper is passed along the work material to cut it.

4. Drilling

Drilling operation is used to originate holes in work material. A rotating cutting tool called drill is pressed into the work to cut it.
