Different methods are adopted to break the chip into small pieces as the long chip is often troublesome causing foul the tool, clutter up the machine and work place and causes injury to the operator. The common methods are:
1. By clamping a piece of sheet metal in the path of the coil
2. By stepped type breaker in which a step is ground on the face of the tool along the cutting edge
3. By a groove type breaker in which a small groove is ground behind the cutting edge.
4. By a clamp type breaker in which a thin carbide-faced plate or clamp is brazed or screwed on the face of the tool
