Bench Vice
Bench vice is used for various bench fitting operations like filing, sawing, tapping, dieing etc. Bench vice is usually fixed on benches by using nut and bolt.
The figure shows the diagram of a bench vice.
It has two cast iron body. One is fixed on the bench and the other one is movable inside the fixed body. The movement of the moving body is achieved by a nut and bolt mechanism. The spindle with handle attached to the moving body is rotated inside the nut fixed with the fixed body to get the movement.
Hardened plates fixed on the holding area of fixed and moving body are called jaw plates.
Bench vices are specified by the width of the jaw. The most commonly used sizes in shop floor are 4'' and 6''
