Soldering
Soldering is joining parts in a solid heated state with a molten filler material called solder. The melting point of the filler material is below 420⁰C. Generally lead and tin alloys are used in various compositions as solder. Soldering is divided into two classes, soft and hard soldering. Hard soldering is used when it is required a strong joint. Silver alloyed with tin are used as hard solder. Electric connections, wire terminals etc. are examples for soldered joint.
Brazing
It is the process of joining two pieces of metals in which a nonferrous alloy is introduced between the parts to be joined and allowed to solidify. The melting point of the filler metal is above 420⁰C. Copper, copper alloys like brass, bronze and silver alloys are used as filler materials.
Brazing is used for fastening of pipe fittings, tanks, carbide tips on tool holders, radiators, heat exchangers, electrical parts and repair o castings.
