Slotting Machine

Slotting machine is a reciprocating type machine tool for cutting internal or external grooves, key ways and slots of various shapes. The ram holding the tool reciprocate in a vertical axis.The main parts of a slotter is illustrated in figure.

Base

It is also known as bed and it is a heavy cast iron construction. It act as a support to the column, the driving mechanisms of the ram, table and other fittings

Column

It is made of cast iron and it act as a housing for the complete driving mechanism

Table

Table is usually  circular and t-slots are provided on the top of the table to clamp the work.

Ram

It moves in vertical direction on the guide ways provided in front of the column. The ram support the tool head to which the tool is fitted. The cutting action take place during the downward movement of the ram
