Shaper Operations

The various machining operations that can be performed with shaper are:

1. Horizontal surface machining

2. Vertical surface machining

3. Angular surface machining

4. Irregular surface machining

5. Cutting slots, grooves and keyways

6. Cutting gears and splines

Horizontal surface machining

For machining horizontal surface, the workpiece is fed by the cross rail after each stroke of the ram holding the tool.

Vertical Surface Machining

For machining vertical surface, the tool is given with a vertical down feed or a vertical up feed after each stroke.

Angular surface machining

For machining angular surfaces, the tool head which is holding the tool is tilted at the required angle and fed by rotating the tool head hand wheel after each stroke.

Irregular surface or profile machining

For machining contour surfaces, the feed is given as combined down feed of the tool and cross feed of the workpiece.
